Happy Easter friends! If you read my last email a few days ago, I had shared that I was moving completely over to Substack. And while, I have officially left Instagram, after some thought, I realised that not everyone on here has Substack. And because I love my email community, truly, I decided that I should keep writing to my email list. So, if you want to follow my page on Substack, please do! I'll be posting a lot of my content and personal life on there. However, if you are not on Substack, then I'm reassuring you that I'm not going anywhere :) I will still be sending out weekly emails about holistic nutrition, rhythms and homeschool life on here. Easter Traditions - Baking Cinnamon RollsFor a few years before my sister moved to the UK, we used to bake cinnamon rolls over Easter. It has been one of our favourite traditions to do, especially because it is Autumn in Australia at Easter time, so eating a cinnamon roll (or scroll as we like to call it) is cozy and pairs well with a hot cup of tea. After almost four years living in the UK, my sister moved back to Australia just last week and our cinnamon roll tradition over Easter has lived on! These cinnamon rolls are divine! So if you feel like making some over the Easter weekend or any time, here is the recipe we followed. Speaking of Sugar...Easter was a chocolate manifesto for so many of us growing up - including myself. I remember vividly eating so much chocolate that I felt sick... and it was only 9am. Now that I have my own children, I am acutely aware of how much I don't want to limit the joy that comes from eating chocolate eggs over Easter. However, we can teach our children the importance of listening to their bodies by how much to eat and how it makes them feel. Intuitive eating is a great tool to teach your children and I believe offers a great balance between being overly strict and not being strict enough. So yesterday when my daughter asked me if she could eat her Easter bunny that her grandma bought her, I said yes, but only until she feels like she has had enough, not just before she feels sick. And she did. She wrapped up the rest of the bunny the moment she felt like she had enough, but not before she felt sick in the stomach. So, if you are on the fence about how you should approach chocolate at Easter, I think that having conversations with your children (if they are old enough to understand) is a great way in instilling healthy habits in your children. I write about other ways to do this on the blog if you want to read more about instilling healthy habits into your children. I’m trying to keep things more consistent on here, so I’m going to start writing a Friday article all about how to eat well, live well and truly flourish without making extreme compromises on health. Here is my first Flourish Friday. Welcome, friend. I love food. My version of leisure time is sitting down once the kids are asleep, with a warm cup of tea or hot chocolate and watching homemaking cooking vlogs on YouTube. I love the process of collecting fresh vegetables, herbs, spices and meat...
Last year, I hit a rock. I almost landed in hospital for it. My husband took time off work, my family dropped everything to help us with the kids and I went on a long three month journey of unravelling some core beliefs I had about myself. It’s a very sobering experience when your seven year old daughter finds you on the shower floor in a pool of water belonging to the shower and your own tears. It’s even more humbling when you can barely answer her gentle question, ‘Mama, are you okay?’ I...
As a Holistic Nutrition Consultant, here's my number one child nutrition tip for parents. It's this... Keep your child's blood sugars stable throughout the day. It seems simple, but how often do we simply feed our kids cereal for breakfast or give them fruit as a snack or fuel them up on lots of packaged foods throughout the day? None of which is inherently bad. And sometimes as parents, time is of the essence, so convenience foods are very helpful. But for the most part, many kids: Start the...
